Sir Re-Mix-A-Lot

"Glee" has made the "mash-up" somewhat fashionable in music, and I must say, they tend to have more hits than misses (listen to the Umbrella/Singin' In the Rain mash HERE) even if they're not the most original of ideas (see Jamie Cullum's original mash-up from 2009 HERE).  And if you don't know who Jamie Cullum is, he's the man behind the theme song to Gran Torino.  But this, shockingly to some, is not a blog about Glee.  This is a blog about a different kind of mash-up.
Every once in a while I come across a Youtube video that manages to combine a song and a separate visual so perfectly that I'm often jealous that I haven't thought of it myself.  In most cases, in the best cases, these combinations bring both a better understanding of the content of the song and the visual, making me want to listen to the song over and over again, and re-watch the film or show that it's from.  Sure there are a ton of really horrible things on Youtube, people who just can't keep their obsessions to themselves and put a terribly edited video up with a terrifically non-compatible song; but I myself don't have a Youtube account so, much like voting, I feel it unfair of me to comment too much on those examples.  Perhaps I will in a later post.  But for right now, I'm going to pick my Top 5 Youtube Mash-Ups, also known as the only Mash-ups I could think of right now, but please feel free to pick your own, or perhaps submit some truly terrible ones.  Enjoy:

5.Fringe (Olivia & Peter specifically) set to "Cosmic Love" by Florence + the Machine

4.Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind set to Crystal Castles F/ Robert Smith

3. Jane Austen set to "Fix You" by Coldplay

2. Les Jeux D'Enfants (Love Me If You Dare) set to "Let Go" by Frou Frou

1. Stardust set to "Ordinary Day" by Vanessa Carlton

Also because I can't help myself and it's Harry Potter Week, there's 2.  One for all those crazies who thought that Harry and Hermione should be together (REALLY?!) and one for those of us who realize that you can't resist the charms of the Rons in your life (No Duh!!).  I love the drama and the seriousness in these things.  Do yourselves a favor, and if you get a chance read the Youtube comments.  They're priceless:
